Last weekend we kicked off the new splitboard season in the Kaunertal with an incredible 40cm of fresh snow at the elooa SPLITBOARD OPENING CAMP presented by K2.

The camp in Kaunertal was aimed at all those interested in trying out a splitboard on easy tours and under expert guidance, as well as all those already infected who finally wanted to start the new winter season. Equipped with the brand-new K2 splitboards Isolator, Freeloader and Marauder as well as avalanche safety equipment from BCA, the participants were familiarized with all the basic techniques by experienced splitboard professionals and accompanied by certified mountain guides on their first tours.

A little late, due to heavy snowfall down to the valley, we started with a splitboard workshop on Friday evening after check-in and a delicious dinner. All the components were explained in detail. On Saturday morning, a practical briefing on skins, crampons, poles, avalanche transceivers and of course all walking and ascent techniques followed. Afterwards, the first splitboard tour of the season started directly from the hotel with 40cm of fresh powder under the skins. A deep powder run was followed by extensive avalanche transceiver training with beaming faces between snow-covered trees in the valley. A visit to the sauna, a 3-course meal and a theoretical avalanche lecture to consolidate the practical exercises in the snow rounded off the day. On Sunday, despite avalanche warning level 4, we set off on the next splitboard tour, this time in glorious sunshine. The subsequent descent through the fresh powder not only put a beaming smile on the faces of all participants, but also made them look forward to the coming winter months.

A snowy splitboard weekend came to an end and we are already looking forward to the next elooa SPLITBOARD CAMPS presented by K2 - hopefully with you too!
