Last weekend, all participants at the elooa SPLITBOARD BASE CAMP presented by K2 at Diedamskopf experienced finally again a great splitboard weekend with fresh powder, lots of sun and cozy hut evenings including sauna and jacuzzi.

Equipped with the brand new K2 splitboard models Freeloader and Marauder as well as avalanche safety equipment from BCA BACKCOUNTRY ACCESS we went together on Friday afternoon with our mountain guides and always accompanied by the last rays of sunshine to our mountain hut at almost 1700m elevation, which serves as the base for the tours of the next few days.

Perfect conditions with fresh snow and sunshine awaited us on Saturday morning. Despite the high risk of avalanches, there were ideal conditions for several short tours with great powder runs. During the ascent there were valuable tips and exercises for all splitboarders on topics such as ascent techniques and terrain assessment. The campers reached the first summit, the Falzer Kopf at almost 2000m, around noon and what followed was a great descent through varied terrain and fresh powder. After a short lunch break, there was another ascent to the Steinmandl summit and a great powder run back to our hut. Afterwards there was even a hot sauna and a jacuzzi and of course a well-deserved dinner waiting for us. In the cozy hut there was also a theoretical keynote on the subject of avalanche awareness in the evening.

Sunday morning was sunny but also windy and so we started an extensive, instructive assessment of the avalanche situation based on a snow profile. Then it was back to the summit and an endlessly long run followed back to the starting point in the valley, where smiling faces reviewed this tour-packed and instructive weekend before it was unanimously said: "Thank you elooa for the great camp and Servus until next time!”
